Freediving legend, Enzo Maiorca started freediving in 1956 in an attempt to better the 41 meter record set by then spearfishing champions. He achieved the world record with 45 meters in 1960, with 49 meters shortly after.

During his career, he won 23 records in variable and constant weight. He retired from freediving record attempts for 10 years after an unsuccessful attempt at 90 meter record, but returned in 1988 to claim his final world record of 101 meters.

Maiorca along with his rival Jacques Mayol was the key personality of the feature film The Big Blue and inspired a new generation of freedivers and world records, including his two daughters.
